I started my time audit with a big dose of realism – how much time will I actually have this week to work? The answer, about 18 hours. Most intriguing was the breakdown by time spent Energising, Priortising and Focusing. Ratio worked out at 25:15:60. The big question is whether or not the 11 hours of focused work was really productive? Apart from a few rabbit-warren-web-searches the pomodoro technique (edition 1) kept me mostly on track. Worthwhile to audit? Absolutely! What I thought was 18 hours to work was actually only 11. This type of reality check can be invaluable when judging what to commit to or not. We’re only human after all!
