Last week I spoke at a gathering in Dublin for the 30% Club, the voluntary movement championing gender balance on boards. The topic was ‘A Better Breed of Busy’ questioning whether or not there’s a difference in the work tasks men and women choose and most importantly which activities give greater visibility and impact. I shared, one that stood out was the ability to ‘Live and Let Go.’ To do this well we need to know when good is good enough and feel better about accepting the quality of work we have delegated (assuming we’ve delegated effectively). Otherwise we end up re-doing work that is fit for purpose which ultimately wastes valuable time. So the question is, how many metaphorical dishwashers do you re-stack each day and how much time could be saved if you could live and let go?
